Lady Aggies Persevere Through Injuries

The Kossuth Lady Aggies fought hard this past Friday in the second round of playoffs held at Houston High School. The Lady Aggies pushed through to defeat the Houston Hilltoppers on their own home floor 60-47, and the Lady Aggies scored their way into the third round of playoffs. The third round of playoffs will be held at Itawamba Community College, with game time set for 5:30.

Lady Aggie VS Houston Game Recaps:

The Lady Aggies had a game full of hustle, strength, and heart this past Friday at Houston High School. The Lady Aggies started the game off minus two of the teams starting players due to injuries, Regan Bobo and Zoe Essary; but that did not stop the Lady Aggies from advancing as a team to the next round. All of the Lady Aggies worked hard to fight for every point on the scoreboard, and most of those points were from the charity line. Just in the first half of the game the Aggies were 19 for 25, and the Lady Aggies netted 27 of 38 total free-throws. That is just one example of how the game was very intense on the court, lots of fouling. Head Coach Angie Malone stated, “We shoot 10,000 free throws a week, so it should be muscle memory, muscle memory, muscle memory.”

Ava Meeks took control over adding some points to the board, and took a 15 point game high, along with 4 steals. Meeks helped the Lady Aggies build a 21-8 lead over the Hilltoppers in the first half. By halftime, the Lady Aggies were still leading with a score of 27-18. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Houston Hilltoppers started catching up with the score being 46-39, but it didn’t take long for the Lady Aggies to respond with an 11-2 run against the Hilltoppers, finishing the final score to be 60-47 and allowing them to advance to the next round.

In the previous games while Regan Bobo and Zoe Essary have been out, many other Lady Aggies have also stepped up in crucial times in order for the Aggies to be victorious.

Faith Williamson led the Lady Aggies with 18 points when they faced Amory at the division tournament, followed by Katie Meeks with 15 points.

During the final game of the division tournament vs Belmont, Kaitlyn Bonds was the leading scorer for the Lady Aggies with 15 points. Katelyn Bumpas came in an a few points behind Bonds this game, being the second highest scorer of the game scoring 9 points herself.

In the first round of playoffs, the Aggies faced Amanda Elzy, and Katelyn Bumpas was the leading scorer, scoring 20 points for the Aggie win, and Faith Williamson scored 16 points this game coming right in behind Bumpas.

As stated before Ava Meeks was the leading scorer of the game VS Houston, scoring 15, and Bailey Holt trailed only a few behind finishing the game with 12 points.
