N. Nethery ACTC Ed Prep Teacher

ASD Educator Preparation teacher, Mrs. Nan Nethery, was a presenter at the 2023 Mississippi Ed Prep Specific Professional Development meeting in Brandon, MS this week.

Using her 15 years of experience in the Educator Prep classroom, Mrs. Nethery shared information with approximately 50 teachers from across the state.

Mrs. Nethery’s presentation focused on the urgency for educators to return to the basics of relationship building and communication in the Ed Prep classroom in order to help students learn. To illustrate her point, Mrs. Nethery shared anecdotes from her own classroom in addition to sharing sample activities completed by her students, information on service-learning opportunities, classroom resources, and upcoming events which may be of interest to teachers and students in Educator Prep classes.

Mrs. Nethery’s passion for empowering potential educators is the obvious driving force behind the abundance of learning opportunities she works to provide for her students. She is currently working to organize the first ever STEAM Summit at the Alcorn Career & Technical Center. 4th graders from across the ASD will visit the ACTC to experience a time of fun learning centered around Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. Ed Prep students will collaborate to help plan, coordinate, and lead activities during the STEAM summit.

Mrs. Nethery hopes the example she sets as a teacher will inspire today’s Ed Prep teachers from around our state as well as the next generation of educators in the Alcorn School District.
