Timeline/Process of Adopting Calendar

  • August 2021 - Began Discussing Calendar with School Board (Covid shutdowns, learning loss, Teacher Retention/ Recruitment, etc.)

  • September 2021- Presented to all Schools Teacher Leadership Teams

  • October 2021- ASD Staff Survey

  • June 2022 - Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory Committee

  • September 2022- Community Q&A Meetings

  • September 2022- Community Wide Survey

  • October 2022- Board Agenda

Details of the ASD Proposed Modified Calendar

General Details

  • The calendar is a 9-2 model. Meaning 9 weeks of school and 2 weeks off.

  • NOT year-round school.

  • It is a modified calendar often referred to as a Flexible Calendar.

  • 187 teachers days - First Day July 17th

  • 180 student days - First Day July 21st

  • 2 week break: September 25 - October 6

    • Intersession: October 2 - October 6

  • 2 week break: March 11 - 22

    • Intersession: March 18 - 22

  • 1 week off for Thanksgiving

  • 2 weeks off for Christmas

Intersession

  • Optional days of extended learning staffed by teachers/support staff/administrators using 21st Century funds

  • Designed for remediation (ELA/Math/Elective Course)

  • Times  8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m

  • Breakfast/Lunch served

  • Transportation provided

  • Staff:  teachers, assistant teachers, nurses, child nutrition, transportation 

  • * Will receive compensation in addition to their salary. 

  • Elective Curriculum offerings determined by staff and the number of students enrolled per site

  • Each school site will have a site coordinator

Athletics during Intersession

  • Competition Schedules will run as normal

  • Teams that are in season can practice at any time during the breaks.

  • Teams that are out of season can schedule practices anytime during the day, but can only practice for the allotted amount of time they have during a school day. 

  • (Ex. 4th block is 90min. On a normal school day, out of season team can practice 90min. During intersession)
