PREPS

Several schools in the Alcorn School District have been recognized with 2025 awards from the Program of Research and Evaluation for Public Schools (PREPS, Inc.), Mississippi’s only statewide educational consortium dedicated to research, evaluation, and data analysis for public school districts.

PREPS, Inc., headquartered at William Carey University, supports member districts in making data-driven curricular and administrative decisions. The organization provides technical assistance in research design, statistical interpretation, and program evaluation. Since 1997, PREPS has conducted value-added analyses comparing current state test results to the previous year’s performance, while accounting for socioeconomic factors, to identify schools that significantly contribute to student growth and achievement.

Each year, PREPS recognizes high-performing schools through “Achievement” and “Growth” awards based on student outcomes.

2025 PREPS Achievement Awards

The Achievement Award is presented to grade levels demonstrating a scale score increase at least twice the state average increase. The formula used is:

Grade Level Scale Score Increase ≥ 2.0 × State Average Scale Score Increase
(Example provided: 6th Grade Math +0.6 × 2.0 = +1.2)

2025 PREPS Top 10% Growth Award

The Growth Award recognizes schools ranked in the top 10 percent of Mississippi schools for overall growth in English Language Arts (ELA) and/or Math.

Formula used:
Top 10% of Mississippi Schools for Overall Growth
(Example provided: If 640 schools are measured, the top 64 schools receive the award.)
