For 30 years, the ASD Honor Choir has represented a tradition of excellence within the Alcorn School District, uniting talented young voices from across the district in celebration of music and community.
The choir is composed of students in grades 3 - 6 from Alcorn Central, Biggersville, and Kossuth. Selection is by audition and students chosen for the ensemble have demonstrated exceptional, musical ability, focus, and dedication. Their inclusion in the ASD Honor Choir reflects both individual achievement and a commitment to representing their schools with distinction.
Each year, the choir presents school and public performances during the first weekend in March in observance of National Music in Our Schools Month. These concerts highlight the strength of music education within the district and provide students with the valuable opportunity to refine their skills, collaborate with peers, and develop confidence through the performing arts.
The ensemble’s impact extends beyond its spring performances. The ASD Honor Choir also performs at the district annual Professional Learning Conference in July and at the annual ASD Veterans Day program in November. Through these appearances, students serve as ambassadors for their schools and for the district, sharing their talents with their peers, educators, families, veterans, and community members.
Under the current leadership of ASD music teachers Nancy Harvell (Kossuth), Tina Downs and Jana Matlock (Alcorn Central), and Kristin Cook (Biggersville), the Honor Choir continues to uphold a long-standing tradition of excellence. Their guidance, combined with the enthusiasm and hard work of the students, ensure that the program remains a source of pride for the district.
As the ASD Honor Choir celebrates it’s 30th anniversary, it stands as a reflection of the district’s commitment to nurturing talent, encouraging, collaboration, and providing students with opportunities that enrich both their education and their community.
