Don't Stop Believin' because the Purple Pride Band of ACHS has a place for YOU. They will welcome you with Open Arms - Anyway You Want It.

You will NOT want to miss the upcoming Purple Pride Marching Season. Ms. Patterson and the Purple Pride will be taking a step back in time as they play some of the greatest hits of one of the Great American Rock Bands - Journey! As you have probably gathered, they will be performing hits such as "Don't Stop Believin'", "Open Arms", and "Anyway You Want It". It will be a show the whole family can enjoy.

The Purple Pride not only wants you to come and enjoy the show; they want you to join the show. Every year the Purple Pride is looking for students that have a love for music to join their ranks. This year is no different. ACHS Band Director Betty Patterson said she isn't looking for professional artists or child prodigies, although she would love for them to join the Pride. She is looking for anyone that has played a little before or who is learning to play now. The Purple Pride is prepared to meet them where they are at, so together they can improve their abilities. The Purple Pride would appreciate the addition of any instrument, especially the Horn Line, Drum Line, Front Ensemble (mallets, auxiliary, percussion, etc), Bass Guitar, and Keyboard. Of course, you can find a spot in the Purple Pride without picking up an instrument. Ms. Matlock and Mrs. Williams are looking for new members to join the ACHS Color Guard and Precision Dance Team. Furthermore, the Purple Pride could always use some helping hands in the form of band aides.

We hope you know that joining the Purple Pride could change your life. World renown philosopher Plato once said, “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” As seen in an article published by Alcorn County News last year, 'Life' is the main concern of Band Director Betty Patterson.

An excerpt from the article reads:
"Ms. Patterson has a desire to watch her students grow: not on the field but in life. She told me that through band, she wants her students to leave with a mindset focused on accomplishing anything they set out to do. She wants her students to understand important life skills like punctuality and pride in their appearance. To me, it was obvious that Ms. Patterson has a love for her students and a love for her job, and it shows in the members of the band. You can catch the rest of the article at the Alcorn County News website.

We look forward to hearing all the good things that come from the 2020 Purple Pride Marching Band! If you have any questions about how to get involved, please feel free to reach Ms. Patterson by email at bpatterson@alcornschools.org. You will be glad you did!
