safeguard MS

Alcorn Central High School is grateful to the University of Mississippi and the SafeGuard Mississippi education program for meeting with our students to highlight the dangers of opioid-related drugs and the importance of prevention. During the session, students also learned about Naloxone—commonly known as Narcan—a life-saving medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

This conversation builds on training our teachers received earlier this summer, ensuring that both students and faculty are better equipped to recognize and respond to opioid-related emergencies.

We are especially proud that Alcorn Central alumna Lindsey Miller Rayborn, now a clinical assistant professor at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy, plays an active role in this program. Seeing a former Golden Bear contribute to such critical work is a point of pride for our school community.

“SafeGuard Mississippi is a powerful example of how education and community engagement can save lives,” said Donna Strum, dean of the UM School of Pharmacy. “By equipping individuals with the tools and knowledge to respond to opioid overdoses, we’re strengthening the health and resilience of communities across our state.”
