The ACHS Golden Voices will not allow a virus to keep them quiet! The 2020 group of vocalists worked with Choir Director Tina Downs to assemble a selection of songs to perform.
The Golden Voices Spring Concert was originally scheduled for March 16th, but school closures due to COVID-19 made it impossible for them to perform. They had also anticipated their performance at the State Performance Assesment that was slated for Firday, March 20th.
The Golden Voices had an eighteen voice choir that showcased three parts: soprano, alto, and baritone. After the virus separated the group of singers, participation became more difficult. However, the original Golden Voices Sextet compiled their talents and wish to present them via Facebook this week. Tune in to the Alcorn Central High School Facebook page each night this week @ 5:30 PM for a musical treat!
The work of these six young talents wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for Director Tina Downs and Accompianist Jim Pinkston.
Tina Down, Director
Tina Downs is a 1989 graduate of Alcorn Central High School. Her love for music was fostered in her high school choral company. After high school, she attended both Northeast Mississippi Community College and Blue Mountain College where she finished her Bachelor of Science in Music Education. She began her teaching career at her alma mater in 1994. She took a small break from the classroom to spend time with her children at home but soon returned to Alcorn Central to resume her teaching position. She has led the Golden Voices to numerous awards throughout the years and continues to find success even in the midst of a global pandemic.
Jim Pinkston, Accompanist
Rev. Jim Pinkston has served as the Minister of Music and Senior Adults of Oakland Baptist Church since May of 1987. He received a Bachelor of Music from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. He is married to Carol Walker Pinkston, and they have two sons, Jonathan and Jordan. Both sons attended Alcorn Central where Jim spent plenty of time volunteering. Pinkston has continued to serve Alcorn Central even after his sons left. For the past fifteen years, he has faithfully helped Mrs. Tina with piano accompaniments and choral arrangements. Alcorn Central is very thankful for his continued support of the ACHS Golden Voices!
