Sydney Slaughter is a senior at Alcorn Central High School who has distinguished herself through academic achievement, leadership, service, and a strong commitment to her school and community. She will graduate on May 15, 2027, with Tech Master, Distinguished, and Mississippi Scholars endorsements. She currently holds a 4.0 GPA and earned a 24 on the ACT. In addition to her high school coursework, she has completed dual-enrollment classes through Northeast Mississippi Community College, including College Algebra, Trigonometry, and Music Appreciation.
After graduation, Sydney plans to attend Northeast Mississippi Community College to complete her prerequisite coursework before transferring to a university. While she has not yet selected a specific major, she knows that she wants to pursue a career that allows her to use her strength and interest in mathematics.
Throughout her years at Alcorn Central, Sydney has been actively involved in numerous organizations and leadership roles. She has participated in Future Business Leaders of America for seven years and currently serves as FBLA president. She is also president of Beta Club, where she has been involved for four years. Her other activities include three years each in the ACHS Drama Club, Math Club, and Student Government Association. She has spent two years as reporter for the National Technical Honor Society and has also participated in DECA and SkillsUSA for two years. Additionally, she has been involved with the Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy and serves as a Community Connections Mentor.
Service has also been an important part of her high school experience. With more than 350 hours of community service, Sydney has volunteered in a wide variety of roles. She has assisted with assembling and breaking down sets for the OBC Passion Play, helped Alcorn Central and the Corinth Coliseum with lighting and sound technology, worked concession stands at Alcorn Central athletic events, and spent the past four years helping load, unload, and transport equipment for the Alcorn Central Band during football games and competitions. She has also provided childcare for the softball coach during practices and games for three years.
Her work experience demonstrates an unusual level of initiative and responsibility. In August 2025, Sydney purchased a rental property and invested more than 100 hours of hands-on labor renovating it, completing work that included flooring, plumbing, painting, and other improvements. She later established SS71 LLC and became a landlord in November 2025. The experience has given her firsthand knowledge of property ownership, renovation, business management, and personal responsibility.
Sydney has also earned numerous awards and honors throughout her academic and extracurricular career. In eighth grade, she received the Presidential Award for earning the highest grades among the female students in her class. In archery, she placed third individually at the 2023 MHSAA Class 3A State Championship, was named an All-County Archer in 2023 and 2026, and earned recognition as Alcorn Central's top female archer in both 2025 and 2026.
Her accomplishments extend into business and leadership competitions as well. She received the FBLA Who's Who Award in 2023 and earned first place in Business Ethics at both the FBLA District and State competitions in 2025.
Through her academic success, extensive leadership experience, entrepreneurship, and dedication to serving others, Sydney represents the values of responsibility, hard work, and community involvement. Her accomplishments demonstrate not only what she has achieved during her time at Alcorn Central High School, but also the potential she carries with her as she prepares for college and the next chapter of her life.
