We are very excited to be welcoming several new faces to Alcorn Central this year. The  Golden Bear Family is growing, and we are happy to share with you all of our new additions!

We are very excited to welcome Rebecca Spencer to the Golden Bear family as one of our new teachers!

Rebecca Spencer is a graduate of Kossuth High School and Blue Mountain College. She has a double Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education and Biology. Spencer maintains endorsements in Biology (7-12) and General Sciences (7-12). While at Blue Mountain College, she was inducted into Kappa Delta Pi, Alpha Chi, Beta Beta Beta, and Alpha Psi Omega Honor Societies, and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Spencer previously worked as a substitute teacher in the Tishomingo County School District and will be teaching Foundations of Biology and Physical Science this year at ACHS.

Relationships are important to us at Alcorn Central. We asked Ms. Spencer why she chose a career in education. She said, “I chose a career in education because I want to make a difference in the lives of students. I want to prepare students to live in and to be successful in today’s society. I believe my role as an educator is to be a teacher, mentor, counselor, encourager, and life coach. Students will face a variety of different circumstances, and I choose to be there for them to help them by encouraging them and showing them that there are great things in store for their lives.”

Spencer is looking forward to helping students become lifelong learners and problem-solvers. In the classroom, her goal is to provide a good learning environment in which students feel welcomed, supported, comfortable, and safe combined with the effort to tailor instruction to meet the needs of students and creating a student-centered classroom in which students will be actively involved in their education by engaging in discussions and labs, asking questions, seeking answers, solving problems, and searching out solutions. Most importantly, her goal is to help the students thrive. She mentioned this by saying, “My hopes for my students are that they grow to learn, grow to love, and grow to serve.”

Welcome Ms. Spencer! The Alcorn Central Golden Bear Family is proud to have you as a part of our spectacular team!!
