This week, Coach Mask’s media class took a deep dive into the events of September 11, 2001. This was a very important time in our nation’s history and is a time that needs to be remembered still to this day.

At the beginning of the week, students got to witness the way in which the news media covered the event as it was happening. This helped show students the difficulty of live television and the importance of good information. Students also explored the societal and cultural dynamics of the events by considering all the “what ifs.”

Later in the week, students engaged in discussion and discovery by utilizing the interactive timeline found on the 9/11 Memorial website. While there, students were able to read transcripts of FAA messages, listen to voice recordings of phone conversations, and see images taken directly from the events that transpired that day.

To finish the week, students were given the task of creating their own version of how and when the events happened on that tragic day. Students used their skills in graphic design and editing to put together digital timelines of the events. This week, we are proud to spotlight the work of three students: Laurie Rushing, Kaitlyn Murray, and Nathan Williams. These students took extra pride in their timeline and submitted a well designed product.

This is what we are about here at ACHS: Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships. We are proud to see our students engaging in their classwork and pulling meaning out of our classes. This begins what we hope will be a long running series of class spotlights.

You can see the designs below.

Laurie Rushing created a digital graphic with animation. Check out this link to view it.
