AC Band members visit NEMCC Band Camp

These AC students spent last week at NEMCC participating in a summer band camp with other students from all over the state and a few from outside of the state. This was the largest summer band camp NEMCC has had yet  with almost 400 students registered. This was a week of learning and fun!

In the group picture from left to right is Mr. Hopson, Holden Vanstory, Kylee Brooks, Cratin Quinnelly, Kailey Inman, Kayla Plunk, Isabella Pike, and Ms. Matlock. These students were privileged with the opportunity to grow in their musical ability through this experience.

Each student had a full day of classes each day where they either learned music or routine, as well as held performances at night. Some of them learned and performed six different pieces of music in only 3 days. We also had some big achievers.

Isabella Pike was a high achiever by placing in  “Red Band”, the top of the four concert bands. Cratin Quinnelly was a high achiever by receiving the “Most Outstanding” award for his color guard class.

We are so proud of all of the students who chose to give up a little bit of their summer to improve themselves and our band program! All of these and many more AC Golden Bear Band members will be coming together soon for band campus on the Glen campus. Band Director Mr. Lee Hopson is excited for the chance to lead his new band this season. He and Assistant Director Ms. Jana Matlock welcome any support you may be willing to provide. If you are interested in supporting the Golden Bear band, please reach out to the school or email Ms. Matlock at jmatlock@alcornschools.org.
